Do I have to be noble to have a coat of arms? No. The adoption of a coat of arms does not require any kind of nobility . This belief, which spread especially after the French Revolution, is totally false. We can go back in time to the 14th century to read the words of the Italian jurist Bartolo da Sassoferrato in his “Tractatus de insignis et armis” (Treatise on Insignia and Arms): “Coat of Arms can be taken up on one’s own. This is fully lawful: each family can adopt one without the permission of any authority, as long as they are not related to the Coat of Arms of some office…of the king, of a prince, of the territorial sovereign…” The belief that a noble title is necessary has also been spread by some historians, who made it to be considered reliable information in the last two hundred years. Fortunately for us, this myth can be easily debunked by historical sources. It has been calculated that out of all medieval coats of arms surveyed 2 out of 5 belong to non-nobles.

Do I need permission from a government authority to have a coat of arms? No. Although governmental heraldic authorities exist in some countries, there is no obligation to seek permission from them to adopt a coat of arms. Getting a coat of arms is a personal choice, made by the individual, like commissioning a portrait from a painter. Requesting a letter patent from a heraldic authority, such as The College of Arms (Uk and commonwealth) may be significant in the life of a person who owns a coat of arms, but there is no legal obligation in it. What is not legal is the misuse of coats of arms belonging to states, legal entities or other persons. For example, using the coat of arms of a noble house and claiming to be one of their associates. We quote again the Italian jurist Bartolo da Sassoferrato in his “Tractatus de insignis et armis” (Treatise on Insignia and Arms): “Coat of Arms can be taken up on one’s own. This is fully lawful: each family can adopt one without the permission of any authority, as long as they are not related to the Coat of Arms of some office…of the king, of a prince, of the territorial sovereign…”

What is vector graphics?Vector graphics is a form of computer graphics in which visual images are created directly from geometric shapes defined on a Cartesian plane, such as points, lines, curves, and polygons. It differs from raster graphics (PNG, JPEG) because it does not lose quality no matter how much the image is enlarged. This allows the final files to have high quality images and easily use the files to print and engrave illustrations on any type of surface with the highest quality.
-
What are the waiting times?Waiting times vary depending on the type of service requested. Each project is taken care of by a professional herald who will maintain contact with the client and make the coat of arms and other required elements. For example, the realization of a complete coat of arms typically takes two weeks considering the first phase of brain storming, realization and delivery of the digital files. For delivery of physical heraldic certificates, the time frame is typically 30 days considering printing, stamping and shipping.
